3 on 2 – 2 on 1

To work on advantage transition offense and disadvantage transition defense.
Procedure [Only Registered Users Can See Links] (javascript:popup_window('webanims/3on22on1.svgz','3on22on1',732,480);)
This is a continuous drill that begins with three offensive players just past half-court filling lanes and pushing the ball at two waiting defensive players. Other players form a line out of bounds at half-court on both sides of the floor. In the three-on-two situation, the offensive player that shoots the ball sprints back on defense to the other end (in the event of a turnover, the player that makes the turnover sprints back on defense) as the two players that began on defense now push to the other end to create a two-on-one transition situation. The two players that began on offense but did not shoot, stay on the same end to become the next defenders. The drill continues with the defensive player either getting the rebound or taking the ball out of the net and making an outlet pass to one of the waiting players from the two lines at half-court to create the next three-on-two situation.
Key points
Freeze the defense (offense)
Stop on top to for pass back 3 on 2 (offense)
Protect the basket 2 on 1 (defense)
Dribble inside hand 2 on 1 offense
Emphasis
On offense, players must push the ball has hard as possible and make good decisions. On defense, players must sprint in transition, communicate, use defensive faking, and rotate where necessary.
