[Only Registered Users Can See Links] Transition
Purpose
To work on offensive and defensive transition.
Procedure [Only Registered Users Can See Links] (javascript:popup_window('webanims/baseline_transition.svgz','baseline_transition',73 2,480);)
Eight players will participate in the drill at one time, with four being on offense and spread out on the baseline and four being on defense and spread out on the freethrow line extended. Each player has someone lined up straight across from him. A coach will throw the ball to one of the offensive players on the baseline and he will immediately begin pushing the ball in transition to the other end with his offensive teammates filling lanes. The defensive players must sprint in transition defense – however, the defensive player that was lined up across from the player that received the pass from the coach must first sprint to the baseline. Action continues for a set number of minutes or to a set number of points.
Emphasis
Offensive brings the ball up court as quickly as possible. When ever a defensive player commits to stopping the man with the ball the offensive player must get by or freeze the defense to create disadvantage. Defensive players must sprint in transition and communicate with each other. The trail defensive player must sprint to get into the play and must read the floor to see where he needs to be (usually backside).
