Slide – Run – Slide
[Only Registered Users Can See Links]
To teach players to come out of a defensive slide and into a sprint when necessary in full-court on-the-ball defense.
Procedure
Players will begin on one baseline corner in a stance as if guarding an offensive player with the ball attempting to get down court. Players will slide 3 steps at a shallow angle and then, as if the offensive player has gotten a step ahead, sprint to get back into good defensive position. Players will then get back into a defensive stance and begin sliding in the other direction and repeating the whole process.
Emphasis
Players must start in a good stance and stay low when sliding. When sprinting, players should open their shoulders and hips and reach with the inside hand and arm. Players should also stay low when sprinting and return back to a stance and begin sliding again with no wasted movement.
