4-man overload vs 1-3-1

Use a 2-1-2 entry (or a 2-2-1 with two high posts), e.g., to avoid a wing-entry pass trap.

There is no give and go on a pass to the corner, making it easier to get the ball back out of the corner.

On ball reversal away from the corner player, the corner player looks for a wing-to-corner skip pass, then

- the corner player moves out to the wing if the wing passer cuts to the far corner, or
- the corner player runs the baseline to the other corner (option - using a screen on the other side), or
- both players stay on the weakside.

Here 1 and 2 stay weakside.

The posts x-cut when the ball is passed back to 1.

Here 1 cuts to the other corner on ball reversal, becoming the new baseline runner.

Here 3 reverses the ball and does not cut,

so 1 runs the baseline using 5.

The defence will be shifting in this direction, so instead of 2 passing to 1 in the ballside corner it is usually better for 2 to pass to 3 who looks to hit 1 with a diagonal skip pass.

Here 2 uses a ballscreen to reverse the ball.

Option - if 2 is double-teamed, e.g., on dribble penetration to the wing or in shooting range, 4 steps out to the point position as a safety option.
